About our Organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking a highly organized, reliable, and experienced individual to fill a part-time Head ECE Preschool Instructor position. This is a Regular Part time position requiring the incumbent to work with the Community Recreation area of Parks and Recreation starting May 2024. Scheduled hours vary. Incumbent must be available Mon - Fri between 8:30am – 2:45pm. Preschool class times are currently M/W/F 9:00am-1:00pm, however an additional T/Th class could be added depending on registration needs. This position is employed as an ECE Preschool Instructor for September through June. Employees may apply for part-time or full-time opportunities as a summer camp leader for July/August. 

Reporting to the Child, Youth, and Family Programmer, the successful candidate will:

  • Create, plan, and implement ½ day preschool program for Sept-June. 
  • Design and deliver lesson plans to meet children’s social, physical, intellectual, creative, cultural, emotional, and developmental needs. 
  • Adhere to VIHA Childcare Licensing requirements, policies and guidelines including writing reports. 
  • Build children’s social and interpersonal skills and self-esteem by establishing routines and positive guidance policies that allow children to feel secure, comfortable, and safe.
  • Create and follow individual care plans for children in the program. 
  • Lead a classroom of up to 18 children in a variety of safe indoor and outdoor classroom activities. 
  • Provide supervision and guidance of daily activities, field trips and special activities. 
  • Provide first aid as needed to children. 
  • Create monthly digital newsletters and activity schedules. 
  • Prepare progress reports and discuss with parents and other staff members. 
  • Manage supply inventory for preschool programs. 

Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of childcare licensing requirements. Preference will be given to candidates that have at least 2 years of licensed preschool experience in a head preschool instructor role. 

  • Must be at least 19 years of age. 
  • ECE Certification - BC License to Practice as an Early Childhood Educator 
  • Current Standard First Aid Certification
  • Clear Criminal Record Check via the Ministry of Justice 
  • Experience leading licensed preschool program for children 3-5yrs 
  • 3 Professional References
  • Statement of Immunizations 
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 
  • Physically able to carry out the duties of the position. 

Salary: $23.68 – $25.55 hourly plus benefits
