Dog Licenses

In Esquimalt, all dogs over the age of four months must be licensed.

Dog licenses go on sale each year at the end of December and are valid from the date of issue until December 31st the following year.

For residents whose dogs were licensed by the municipality the previous year, dog license reminder notices are mailed at the start of the year and license fees must be paid by January 31^st to avoid a $5 late penalty.

Dog licenses can be purchased:

• In-person at the Municipal Hall (1229 Esquimalt Road). Payment may be made by cash, cheque, or debit card.
• By mail. Please enclose both copies of the dog license notice with your payment addressed to Corporation of the Township of Esquimalt, 1229 Esquimalt Road, Esquimalt, BC V9A 3P1. A validated copy of the notice will be mailed to you with your dog tag(s).

Please phone the Municipal Hall at 250-414-7107, if you are no longer the owner of a dog for which you received a notice.

Dog License Tags

• A dog license tag must be attached to the collar or harness of the dog for which it is issued.
• Dog tags may not be transferred from one dog to another or from one owner to another.
• Replacements for lost or damaged dog tags may be purchased at the Municipal Hall for a fee of $5.

Fees

New residents to Esquimalt may purchase a dog license for the balance of the current year for the replacement tag fee of $5, if the dog has already been licensed for the current year in another jurisdiction in Canada.

For dogs acquired after June 30th or for dogs that reach the age of four months after June 30th, half of the annual dog license fee applies.

A $5 late dog penalty is added when an owner fails to license a dog within 30 days of the date on which the dog was required to be licensed.
