Animal Control & Dog Licenses
Impoundment
An Animal Control Officer or the Poundkeeper may impound:
- an unlicensed dog
- any animal found to be running at large
- any dangerous dog found to be in a place or in circumstances prohibited by the Animal Bylaw
Impounded animals may be claimed at the Capital Regional District (CRD) Pound upon payment of impoundment fees, boarding fees, license fees (if applicable).
Impounded animals are kept in the pound for a minimum of 96 hours and attempts are made to contact the owner, if known. After this time an impounded animal may be placed for adoption or euthanized in a humane manner. Unclaimed dangerous dogs must be euthanized.
