Graffiti Removal
Overview
Graffiti is an act of vandalism involving painting, drawing, scribbling, or “tagging” on any surface without the permission of the property owner.
Esquimalt is committed to removing graffiti with its program ETAG (Esquimalt Together Against Graffiti). This program involves the Police Department and a team of staff and community volunteers, who will clean-up existing graffiti and respond to new instances of vandalism.
Esquimalt’s initiative to wrap electrical kiosks in a graffiti-proof vinyl laminate with scenic photos from local parks has been successful in deterring graffiti and making the removal of any tagging easy.
In October 2009, Esquimalt will be hosting a Anti-Graffiti Symposium at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort. The symposium provides an international networking forum where participants can
share stories, ideas and techniques in graffiti prevention, program development,
prosecution and removal. To find out more about the 2009 TAGS Symposium, please click here.
The ETAG program relies on corporate sponsorships from organizations such as BC Hydro.
