About our organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm "lifestyle pool" and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from. 

About the oppportunity: 

The Recreation Department is seeking motivated individuals to fill an Out of School Care Leader (Daycare Worker) position. This is an auxiliary position. Scheduled shifts vary, Monday - Friday between 6:30-9:15am and 2:00-6:00pm. Reporting to the Out of School Care Supervisor, the preferred candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supervising snack, walking children from Rec Centre to Macaulay school (and vice versa), and leading afternoon activities which may include gym games, playground games, crafts, drama, science, cooking, swimming and skating.

  • Providing all required care and support including, but not limited to, behaviour management, parent communication, first aid and the administration of medication with parent approval.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • 20 hours of coursework in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition. (examples: Food Safe, NLS, NCCP, Child Psychology)
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
  • Clear criminal record check from the Ministry of Justice

A clear and current criminal record check with vulnerable sector check is a condition of employment and is the financial responsibility of the candidate.

  • SALARY: $20.68- $22.34 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)
