About our organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

 

About the opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill a Cooking Instructor (Recreation Leader 1) position. This is an auxiliary position. Scheduled shift is Monday evenings 5-8pm.  Reporting to the Adult, Arts & Culture Programmer, the preferred candidate will be responsible for: 

  • Ensuring a fun and safe environment for all participants through site and risk management
  • Lesson planning, first aid, and program implementation
  • Compiling a cooking manual for each set of classes with healthy recipes
  • Consistently instruct engaging, interactive classes
  • Communicating and working cooperatively with participants, parents, co-workers and supervisors
  • A strong knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen safety
  • Purchasing foodstuffs and supplies needed for each class
  • Set-up and clean-up of the teaching space before and after each class
  • Providing excellent customer service and public relations

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • A clear and current criminal record check with vulnerable sector check is a condition of employment and is the financial responsibility of the candidate. 
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
  • Foodsafe Certificate
  • Experience planning and leading children’s programs and activities
  • Clear criminal record check from the Ministry of Justice

  • SALARY: $20.84- $22.52 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)
