Located next to downtown Victoria, the Township of Esquimalt, with a population of over 17,000, is home to Canada’s Pacific Naval Fleet. The community boasts extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools, and commercial services.

About our organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking motivated individuals to fill Aquatic Fun Leader positions, reporting to the Aquatic Programmer. This role is responsible for leading and supervising safe swim activities with the public. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and an interest in water safety. Duties include:

  • Supervising the use of pool features such as slides, inflatable play equipment and running mat.
  • Supporting the lifeguard team in facilitating safe use of the pool and responding to emergencies.
  • Planning and leading games in the pool and pool area.
Qualifications:
  • Bronze Cross certification
  • Standard First Aid + CPR-C 
  • Minimum 15 years of age
  • Clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check

Salary: $20.51 – $22.13 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)

Hours: Primarily weekends with some evening opportunities, up to 40 hours per week
