About our Organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking a responsible individual to fill an auxiliary Youth Program Leader position. Reporting to the Child, Youth, and Family Services Programmer, the Youth Program Leader will be responsible for welcoming and supervising youth 12-18 years old during drop-in Teen Nights at the Esquimalt Teen Centre. Scheduled shifts are based off availability. Teen Nights run Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from approximately 7:00-10:00pm. Staff will be responsible for:

  • Welcoming and signing in youth to the program. 
  • Preparing snacks and developing and leading structured activities which may include gym games, crafts, boardgames, group games, cooking, and homework help. 
  •  Providing all required care and support including, but not limited to, behaviour management, parent communication, writing incident reports and performing first aid.
  • Responsible for cleaning and teen centre and ensuring equipment is locked up. 
  • Additional duties may be required during specialized programs. 
Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be at least 19 years of age and have experience working with youth ages 12-18 years old. Other qualifications include:

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with our team
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification
  • A clear and current criminal record check including vulnerable sector check is a condition of employment and is the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Post Secondary Education desired, preferably in the areas of Recreation, Child and Youth Care, or Social Work 
  • Experience leading group activities for children or youth. 

Salary: $20.84 – $22.52 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits
