About our Organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill an auxiliary Out of School Care Leader position. Scheduled shifts vary, Monday-Friday between 6:30-9:15am and 2:00-6:00pm. Reporting to the Out of School Care Supervisor, the preferred candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supervising snack 
  • Walking children between the Esquimalt Recreation Centre and Macaulay Elementary School
  • Leading afternoon activities which may include gym games, playground games, crafts, drama, science, cooking, swimming, and skating
  • Providing all required care including, but not limited to, behaviour management, parent communication, First Aid, and the administration of medication with parent/guardian approval. 
Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be at least 19 years of age and have:

  • 20 hours of coursework in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition (eg. Food Safe, NLS, NCCP, Child Psychology)
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
  • Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check from the Ministry of Justice

Salary: $20.68 – $22.34 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits
