About our Organization:

The Archie Browning Sports Centre is a multi-use facility, which includes an ice arena, a six-sheet curling rink, lounge areas, and the Township of Esquimalt Parks and Recreation Administrative Office.

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking motivated individuals to fill two auxiliary Skate Instructor positions. Reporting to the Ice Programs Supervisor, the ideal candidates will prepare lesson plans, instruct children aged 3-12 years in skating lessons, assess children’s skating skills, and communicate with parents/caregivers on their child’s progress, including providing written report cards. The ideal candidates will ensure facility policies, procedures, and regulations are implemented to keep the ice complex area safe, and ensure proper documentation is completed for all accidents and incidents.

Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children, providing guidance and encouragement in learning new skills
  • Strong skating skills
  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Inter-municipal Learn to Skate Instructors Training preferred
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with our team. 
Salary: $20.84 – $22.52 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits
