About our Organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill an auxiliary Run Clinic Leader position. Scheduled hours may vary, 1-2 days a week with typical 2.5-hour shifts. Reporting to the Fitness Programmer, the preferred candidate will have experience in:

  • Leading a group of runners and volunteers of varying abilities in a community run clinic
  • A strong understanding of the mechanics of running, building endurance, and the cardiovascular system as it relates to exercise
  • Communicating with the public in a recreation setting
  • Ensuring facility policies, procedures, and regulations are implemented ensuring clinic participants are safe
  • Ensuring proper documentation is completed for all accidents and incidents
  • Supervising and training run clinic volunteers
  • Performing additional duties as required
Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with the public, supervising recreation programs for youth and adults
  • Experience with run/walk clinics
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Motivational and goal setting techniques
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C or equivalent
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Salary: $23.68 – $25.55 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits

Hours per week: 2.5-4 hours a week
