About our Organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a motivated and highly organized individual to fill the full-time Arena and Events Supervisor role. Reporting to the Community Development Programmer, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Arena lessons and public sessions, programs in the curling facility, and annual special events. This position requires a high level of planning, leadership, and organizational skills. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and administering activities for skating lessons and public sessions
  • Recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring and evaluating staff and volunteers 
  • Provide leadership and daily supervision to staff and assisting when needed with program participants 
  • Assist the Community Development Programmer in planning and creating promotional materials for seasonal programs and events
  • Liaise with patrons and community event organizers 
  • Ensure workplace regulations are followed, and Township health, safety and policies are adhered to 
  • Manage program supply inventory and make purchases as needed 
  • Oversee program related housekeeping duties as appropriate
  • Review program budget including recording, maintaining, reviewing, and recommending capital and supplemental items
  • Perform all related program administration duties to include the preparation of reports and correspondence related to participant information, staff and program volunteer records, and general program record keeping and communications.
Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age 
  • Certificate in Recreation Leadership
  • 18 months of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience operating computer programs including Microsoft Office, Xplor Recreation (PerfectMind), and using computer databases (Preferable) 
  • Current Standard First Aid Certification 
  • Current Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check 
  • Class 5 Drivers License. 

Salary: $35.25 – $38.02 hourly (2024 rates) plus benefits 

Schedule:  Work hours are event dependant. These are typically evenings and weekends, otherwise the schedule will be Monday to Friday between 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Maximum 35 hours per week.
