About our Organization:

The Archie Browning Sports Centre is a multi-use facility, which includes an ice arena, a six-sheet curling rink, lounge areas, and the Township of Esquimalt Parks and Recreation Administrative Office. 

About the Opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill an auxiliary Skate Instructor position. Reporting to the Ice Programs Supervisor, the ideal candidate will prepare lesson plans, instruct children aged 3-12 years in skating lessons, assess children’s skating skills, and communicate with parents/caregivers on their child’s progress, including providing written report cards. The ideal candidates will ensure facility policies, procedures, and regulations are implemented to keep the ice complex area safe, and ensure proper documentation is completed for all accidents and incidents. Skating lessons take place on Tuesday afternoons. 

 
Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children, providing guidance and encouragement in learning new skills
  • Strong skating skills
  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Inter-municipal Learn to Skate Instructors Training preferred 
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with our team. 

Salary: $20.84 – $22.52 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)
