On February 6, Mayor Barb Desjardins met with Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin at the West Bay Walkway to thank the City of Victoria for its centennial gifts, which included two steel Adirondack chairs, a side table and a commemorative bronze plaque. The commemorative gifts were recently installed by Township crews on the West Bay Walkway viewing platform near Head Street.
“This is a most welcome addition to the Township, and a lasting symbol of our relationship with the City of Victoria and of our milestone celebration,” said Mayor Desjardins. “On behalf of the Township I thank Mayor Fortin and the City of Victoria for this centennial legacy gift, which stands as a friendly resting spot at the boundary between our two communities.”
Mayor Fortin added: “Victoria and Esquimalt share an important prosperous history, and together our communities will celebrate our bright future. I hope this gift is a reminder of our friendship, provides a place for people to relax and admire the stunning landscape that surrounds us, and brings enjoyment to all the residents of Esquimalt for years to come.”
The Township of Esquimalt celebrated its 100th anniversary of incorporation on September 1, 2012. The City of Victoria celebrated its 150th anniversary of incorporation on August 2, 2012. Celebratory projects and events were held throughout the year in both communities.
