Esquimalt, BC— The public is invited to learn more about volunteer opportunities in and around the Township of Esquimalt.

On April 18, more than 25 local volunteer organisations will be at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre ready to meet community members and share their passion. The goal is to help the groups recruit volunteers and raise awareness of their work. The groups either are based in Esquimalt or service members of the Esquimalt community.

“This is our first year holding the event and we are thrilled to see the interest so far,” said Township Mayor Barbara Desjardins. “Volunteer groups give so much to the Esquimalt community and we wanted to provide them an opportunity to tell their stories directly with the public.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet a wide range of community groups and mingle with like-minded people in a fun and lively atmosphere.  Groups include everyone from Esquimalt’s Ribfest to Big Brothers Big Sisters Victoria.

Common reasons for volunteering include making a difference in the lives of others; gaining valuable skills and experiences; meeting like-minded individuals; and being part of something bigger than oneself. There will be light refreshments and door prizes as well.

The event runs from 3—7PM on Thursday April 18 at the Jubilee Hall in the Esquimalt Recreation Centre. There will be light refreshments, door prizes and free admission.
