The Township of Esquimalt is pleased to announce Bill Brown as the new Director of Development Services. Mr. Brown will begin working for the Township on February 27, 2012, taking over from Barbara Snyder, who is retiring.
As Director of Development Services, Brown will be responsible for professional planning services related to land use, development and zoning matters and provide management expertise and advice to the Chief Administrative Officer and Council. He will also lead the Development Services team to plan economic growth, urban renewal and community tourism opportunities.
“Community planning initiatives are among our top priorities in the Township right now,” said Chief Administrative Officer Laurie Hurst. “Bill is the right choice for this important position on our management team and I am looking forward to what he will bring to these initiatives.”
Brown comes to the Township with over 24 years of experience as a professional planner, the past seven years as the Manager of Community Planning at the Municipality of Whistler. During his time at Whistler, Brown was also the Acting Manager, Building Department and Acting General Manager of Community Life. Brown has also worked in a planning capacity for the municipalities of Banff, Canmore, and Medicine Hat as well as the Southern Alberta Regional Planning Commission and the Province of Alberta’s Municipal Affairs Branch. He has an M.A Degree in Planning from the University of Waterloo and a Certificate in Urban Design from Simon Fraser University.
