The Township of Esquimalt flew its flag at half mast on July 23rd out of respect for former Township Councillor Ruth Layne who died on July 22nd, 2010. Ruth Layne was elected to Esquimalt Council in December 2002, and ran for Mayor in November of 2005.
“Ruth Layne will always be remembered as an unfaltering supporter of Esquimalt,” said Mayor Barb Desjardins. “She was a champion of our youth and the environment and leaves a legacy of compassion for others.”
As a Township Councillor, Ruth Layne was a member of the Family Court and Youth Justice Committee, the Esquimalt Parks and Recreation Commission, Tourism Victoria, and the Buccaneer Days Committee.
