A portion of the Japanese Garden at Esquimalt Gorge Park will be fenced off on Tuesday, August 24th in order to start Phase III of the Township’s Japanese Garden Upgrade, and to complete repairs to the existing pond. Design consultant Michael Greenfield will be overseeing the repair and construction. The work will commence on August 25th.

Phase III of the upgrade includes the installation of additional streams with two small bridges as well as a traditional Japanese structure, with seating area, where individuals can sit and enjoy the garden.

The garden is the oldest Japanese Garden in North America and was created by Isaburo Kishida, who designed the Japanese Gardens at Royal Roads and Butchart Gardens. The Takata family operated a very successful tea house in the gardens for many years.
