In recognition of Purple Day on March 26, 2018, the Township will illuminate both the Archie Browning Sports Centre and Esquimalt Adventure Park with purple lights. The lights will remain purple for the entire week, from March 26 through March 30.
Purple Day is an international grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. On March 26th annually, people in countries around the world are invited to wear purple and host events in support of epilepsy awareness.
Epilepsy is a condition of the brain that is characterized by recurrent seizures and is one of the most common chronic neurological disorders. An estimated 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy. That means approximately one percent of the general population has the condition.
