Esquimalt, BC—The Township of Esquimalt is launching the second phase of active transportation improvement planning along the Esquimalt Road corridor. This phase looks at transportation options from Joffre Street to Canteen Road.
This project is part of the Township's new Active Transportation Network Plan, which aims to create a 5.3-kilometer bike-friendly network on Tillicum Road, Lampson Street, and Esquimalt Road with the goal of improving walking and biking experiences for all users.
Engagement on Phase I of the project—held in September—looked at Esquimalt Road from Dominion Road (at the border with City of Victoria) and Joffre Street.
Residents and businesses are being asked to give feedback on conceptual plans and let project planners know if the designs meet their expectations of an improved active transportation network.
The draft plans will publish November 21 and will outline key information like traffic volumes, parking spaces, accessibility planning and more.
The conceptual plans will look at designs along Esquimalt Road as well as alternative routes in the corridor. Part of the project includes upgrading underground infrastructure along the Esquimalt Road construction routes.
The Esquimalt Road Active Transportation Improvements and Utilities Upgrades Project will better connect Esquimalt Road to critical areas, including the City of Victoria, Department of National Defence lands, business centers, recreation facilities, and other regional destinations.
There will be two drop-in open houses that will allow residents and businesses to chat in real time with project planners.
