How to take Part in the Esquimalt Urban Deer Research Project

After the prescribed three-year deer survey and in consultation with local First Nations, the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations, and Rural Development has granted the permit required to participate in studying the efficacy of immunocontraception (IC) on deer in the Township of Esquimalt.

The IC does not harm the animal, it results in fewer fawns, which should reduce the overall population over time.

From September 11-October 31, 2024, up to 40 female deer will be captured and marked to treat with an immunocontraception (IC) vaccination.

Questions or concerns can go to acmelab.uvic@gmail.com. The project website is www.acmelab.ca/esquimaltdeer.
