Jacob Brothers Construction has been awarded the contract for the Admirals Road Corridor Improvement Project for a price of $4,595,000.
“Multi-modal transportation is a Council strategic priority, so we are excited to be moving forward with this important infrastructure project,” said Mayor Barbara Desjardins. “Admirals Road is a busy regional commuter route and a prominent and valued community corridor. The planned improvements will mean a safer and more inviting experience for all users – cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.”
The project will improve this busy commuter route between Maplebank Road and Lyall Street with road reconstruction and improvements, the addition of bike lanes, a two-way left turn lane, traffic calming islands, replacement of underground services, and street lighting upgrades. Additional improvements along the 1.9 kilometre corridor also include sidewalk upgrades and the installation of stormwater treatment devices to protect local waterways.
Jacob Brothers provided the lowest bid and was awarded the contract following a competitive tender process involving a total of three bidders.
Jacob Brothers is a multi-discipline general contractor based in Surrey with a satellite office in Langford. The company has worked on a number of high profile construction projects in the province, including the Craigflower Pump Station in View Royal.
The project will be completed by October 31, 2015.
The Admirals Road Corridor Improvement project is proceeding thanks to a $2.8 million contribution from the Government of Canada through the Gas Tax Fund for municipal infrastructure priorities.
