Director of Community Safety Services Hired at the Township

After an extensive search and hiring process, the Township of Esquimalt is pleased to announce the appointment of Blair McDonald to the position of Director of Community Safety Services.

“We are looking forward to Mr. McDonald joining our management team,” said Mayor Barbara Desjardins. “He has worked collaboratively within the communities he has served, understands municipal safety issues, and will bring a strategic and consultative approach to the Township’s new Department of Community Safety Services.”

Mr. McDonald’s responsibilities will include bylaw enforcement, building inspection and emergency preparedness. He will oversee community risk assessment and analysis, provide oversight to policing contract management, and liaise with the Victoria Police Department. In addition, he will work closely with community partners such as the Chamber of Commerce, residents associations, business associations, youth groups and volunteer groups to improve public safety in the community.

Mr. McDonald comes to the community from Comox, where he currently serves as Officer in Charge at the Comox Valley Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He has 27 years community safety experience working in leadership roles with the RCMP in both Alberta and British Columbia, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan. His first day in the newly created position will be January 13, 2014.
