Mayor Barb Desjardins welcomes Township residents to meet with her via Twitter for an Online Open Door to discuss matters of community interest.
What: Mayor’s Online Open Door
Where: Via Twitter, #EsqChat
When: Wednesday, June 5th, 2013, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Online Open Door is being offered as part of the Township’s commitment to increasing public engagement in community and municipal issues, and is a first for any municipality in the Capital Regional District.
How to participate
Mayor Desjardins will respond to your questions and comments through Twitter – 140 characters at a time. The hashtag #EsqChat will be used in all posts to group the conversation. Topical questions will be posted for the Mayor to answer from the Township Twitter page @Esquimalt. At any point, viewers can also post their own questions, and add comments. The format for the Online Open Door was developed by YYJchat. Co-founder of YYJchat, Mat Wright, will be on hand to moderate the online discussion.
A useful tool for residents is the website Tweetchat.com which allows participants to focus in on a single hashtag. To use the website, sign in using your Twitter user name and type in the #EsqChat hashtag in the field located at the top of the page. A new page will open with all the posts tagged with #EsqChat. At the top is a message window where you can post questions and comments, and the system automatically adds the tag, saving on typing time. You can also reply directly to people using the icons next to their posts.
