The road corridor along Dunsmuir Road is being upgraded from May to September 2013. The upgrades will occur primarily between Head Street and Garrett Place and will involve the City of Victoria for water main upgrades, Fortis BC for gas main upgrades and and Allterra Construction Ltd for road corridor upgrades, including paving, sidewalk replacement, and improvements to storm and sanitary services.
The City of Victoria will commence construction in early May. City crews will be replacing the existing cast iron water main with a new and larger PVC water main. The existing main is undersized for fire protection requirements. The new main is designed to provide improvements for water quality, seismic capability and supply pressure.
The Township plans to overlap construction between the water main upgrades and the gas main upgrades in order to minimize disruption to residents. Fortis BC has tentatively committed to mid-June as a start date with construction work taking approximately 3-4 weeks.
Road corridor upgrades are scheduled to begin in early June with a construction time of approximately 12 weeks. Road corridor upgrade improvements include sewer and drain works, road resurfacing, and a new sidewalk and curb along the southern side.
During construction city crews and contractors involved will endeavor to minimize disruption. Parking restrictions will be in effect during working hours and access will generally be maintained for pedestrians and vehicles.
The Township apologizes for any inconvenience while this upgrade is being completed.
