Esquimalt Public Works advises that the grace period for Garbage Bylaw No. 2630 infractions expires on Monday, February 13, 2012 and that the bylaw will be strictly enforced.
Over the past two months residents who have been notified by a tag on their garbage can that they were in violation of the bylaw must now ensure that they are in compliance or their garbage will not be picked up.
Recent violations of the bylaw include:
- Overfilling of receptacles
- Leaking receptacles
- Inaccessible receptacles or unacceptable location (access, grade, etc)
- Loose lids
- Unacceptable materials in receptacles (recyclables, hazardous waste, unbagged dog waste)
These violations increase workload and also put Public Works crews at risk of injury.
If residents are notified of a violation of the bylaw on or after February 13, 2012 garbage will not be collected until the next scheduled collection date. Crews will only pick up the receptacle at the next scheduled date if the violation has been corrected.
Residents are also reminded that municipal garbage stickers are required for extra garbage cans.
