The eyes of the world will be on Greater Victoria on Friday, October 30th, 2009, as it plays host to the launch of the nation-wide Olympic Torch Relay for the 2010 Winter Games. As an official route community, Esquimalt is proud to be a part of the relay’s opening day. The Township of Esquimalt and local schools will be working hard to inspire the community to line the streets of Esquimalt, showing the world our huge Olympic Spirit! Organizers are encouraging everyone to come out in their most patriotic red and white attire to take part in the Olympic Torch Celebrations.

Celebration stations are planned at Memorial Park and at L’ecole Brodeur School on Friday, October 30th between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Each celebration station will have music, entertainment, face painting and promotion tables where you can pick up an Olympic Torch Flag. From here, everyone is encouraged to head down to the torch route and get a front row seat to a truly inspirational Olympic moment.

Get involved with the Torch Relay’s Adopt-A-Block:
Businesses, residents, community organizations, schools and sport teams are encouraged to sign up for Adopt-a-Block along the route.
If your organization would like to adopt a block please contact the Township of Esquimalt to get a copy of “Setting the Stage” which offers ideas and guidelines on how to decorate your adopted block. This program is not a reservation system, but a way for local groups to show their pride of community and Olympic Spirit. Groups participating in Adopt-a-Block are encouraged to help clean up their area after the Torch has passed through the community.
