Greater Victoria, B.C.-The Township of Esquimalt and the District of Oak Bay are teaming up this Emergency Preparedness Week. The two municipalities are hosting a family-friendly contest that focuses on building or adding to emergency kits.
Participants are encouraged to choose a type of kit, for example for pets or for at the office, and see what they can gather from home before making any additional purchases. They then take a photo of the collected items and send it in.
“The goal of this contest is to demonstrate that building an emergency kit is easy and accessible,” stated Oak Bay Mayor Kevin Murdoch. “Whether participating on your own or together as a family, we hope this contest encourages everyone to get prepared.”
"What we want to emphasize is that emergency preparedness doesn't need to be a difficult exercise," said Esquimalt Mayor Barbara Desjardins. "The hope with the scavenger hunt is to help people realize that they have a lot of what they need at home already."
To enter the contest, participants take a picture of the item, post it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #GetYourKit or submit their photo on the contest website, esquimalt.ca/GetYourKit
All photos will be entered to win prizes to add to participants' emergency kits.
The contest will run from Saturday, May 2, 2021 until Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.
