ESQUIMALT, BC—The 2014 Police Framework Agreement is set for renewal in 2024 and the township is reaching out to residents and businesses to hear their thoughts on the current policing model in Esquimalt. Before the end of 2022, The Township of Esquimalt needs to decide whether to renew the agreement for another 10 years.
Part of the initiative includes dedicated web pages where residents will find links to factsheets and background information. The factsheets aim to provide context for Esquimalt’s needs and those of other similarly-sized municipalities in the region.
“We want a dialogue with our community before making any large decisions about policing,” said Mayor Barbara Desjardins. “By joining the conversation about policing in Esquimalt, you will help us make crucial decisions that impact community safety, crime prevention and the use of your tax dollars.”
On May 4, there will be a face-to-face opportunity to learn about Esquimalt policing services, the Agreement and its renewal process, and to speak with Township representatives.
Those interested are invited to attend an open house on May 4 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the gallery at Esquimalt Town Square. Light refreshments will be served.
This open house will be an informal sharing of information and ideas while giving community members a chance to ask questions and have their thoughts heard.
In addition to the open house is a survey offered online or by hard copy to those who request it. The survey is open until May 14.
