A recent public tender process yielded higher than predicted costs to complete the Public Safety Building project. The township is not awarding this tender at this time and instead is seeking proposals to hire a new construction manager to ensure that the project budget is in line with today’s market.
This manager will advise the project team on construction and design efficiencies, cost savings measures, and tender procurement strategies to achieve more favorable tender results.
While this is an industry-wide issue, it is important for the township to ensure that plans reflect the best possible price to construct this project. Re-issuing the tender and receiving quotes based on the current market will give confidence to the budget moving forward. After hiring a new construction manager and completing a design review, the project will be re-tendered this spring. Construction will then begin directly following the award of tender.
This change will extend the anticipated completion date of the building to roughly spring, 2025. However, it is important that the project budget reflects today’s market so that decisions are made with the best information available.
