The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill a full-time Recreation Programmer position, responsible for the Child, Youth, and Family Services portfolio. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, this position requires an exceptional team player with the ability to maintain a high standard of customer service while performing the following duties:

  • Planning, development, implementation, scheduling, promotion and evaluation of recreational programs, services, and special events for the community
  • Hire, train, assign and review the work of staff involved in Child, Youth & Family Services programs/services; ensure schedules, procedures and safety standards are met; responsible for staff development and performance appraisals; create and implement in-service training programs
  • Propose initiatives for the promotion, advertising, and marketing of recreation programs; prepare promotional material such as flyers, posters, press releases, newspaper ads, social media and seasonal brochures; respond to inquiries and concerns from the public regarding recreation programs.
Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Diploma in Recreation Administration (2 years)
  • Valid Class -5 BC Driver’s License
  • Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR “C”
  • Possess and maintain positive criminal record check
  • 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Salary: $37.45 – $40.40 hourly plus benefits 

Hours per week: 35
