About our Organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Parks Department is seeking eight motivated individuals to fill eight auxiliary Parks Worker 1 positions.  Reporting to the Parks Manager.

The ideal candidates will undertake tasks associated with gardening, turf maintenance, pathway maintenance, washroom cleaning, tree maintenance, event support, and parks infrastructure maintenance.

Responsibilities:
  • Turf maintenance, ie: mowing, weed eating, edging, operating leaf blower, setting up irrigation equipment, watering or beds and weeding.
  • Trail maintenance, litter control and garbage collection.
  • Park building/washroom cleaning and maintenance, and painting and graffiti removal.
  • Operate a vehicle to transport material to and from worksite.
  • Use hand tools such as rakes, shovels, hoes and pruners.
  • Perform related duties where qualified
Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • General park operation and maintenance experience preferred.
  • Current valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Experience/education in the following areas preferred: horticulture, arboriculture, turf maintenance, construction, carpentry. 

Salary: $31.18 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)

Hours per week: up to 40 hours per week (may include weekend work)
