About our Organization:
The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:
The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill an auxiliary full-time Recreation Coordinator position for a term of approximately one year. Reporting to the Manager of Recreation, the Recreation Coordinator liaises with facility and parks user groups and supervises the Facility Booking Clerk, Pavilion Supervisor, Community Development Programmer, and Fitness Programmer. In addition, this position will oversee and manage the implementation of the Public Art Plan, including establishing and being the staff liaison to the Public Art Advisory Committee; lead Recreation Staff recruitment initiatives; and lead volunteer recruitment initiatives. This position will appeal to a flexible, resourceful, and adaptable team leader with an eye for emerging trends and technologies that can benefit the department.
Our Preferred Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Recreation Administration or equivalent, supervisory/leadership training, a class 5 BC Driver’s License, Clear Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector check, basic First Aid with CPR-C, and three years of progressive experience in a municipal or similar environment.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency with Xplor Recreation (previously PerfectMind) software
- Ability to collect, review, assess, and interpret user data and patterns under minimal direction
- Knowledge and experience with Community Development and Recreation Programming
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment
- Experience and ability to liaise with user groups and community organizations in allocating facility usage and navigating special events.
Salary: $45.13 – $48.68 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)
Hours per week: 35
