Your home's assessed value
BC Assessment has published the 2023 property assessments. You are able to appeal a property value included on your notice of assessment until January 31.
Changes in assessed value do not necessarily mean a change to property taxes. As indicated on your assessment notice, how your assessment changes relative to the average change in your community is what may affect your property taxes.
Property assessment in B.C. is the responsibility of the British Columbia Assessment Authority.
Any questions about the assessment of property in Esquimalt should be directed to BC Assessment and not to the municipality.

BC Assessment Contact Information
At the beginning of each year, BC Assessment sends assessment notices to all property owners. Property owners, who disagree with the BC Assessment valuation, have until the end of January to file an appeal to the Property Assessment Review Panel.
During February and March, the Property Assessment Review Panel hears these appeals and makes their decisions. BC Assessment issues the Revised Assessment Roll, which is used by the municipality to calculate property taxes for that year, when the Property Assessment Review process is complete.
For more information about property assessments, view BC Assessment’s fact sheets page.
Property tax calculation
This amount of municipal tax payable by a property owner is calculated as: (mill rate X assessed value)/1,000.
